Download Shahzad Hameed - Fear [New Music Video]

He is a part of the dying breed that pioneered underground music in Pakistan, before it became what it is today: a platform through which local artistes hope to launch themselves into mainstream television. Shahzad Hameed is a guitar maestro who’s been in the Lahore underground circuit for over a decade. And for the past year or so, he’s been trying to get his album released.
The latest is that his album, Songs from the Nowhere Land, has been released via a distributor without the involvement of a record label. Carrying the “if you’re not going to do it for me, I’ll do it myself” attitude, this version of the album is slightly different from the original in that it contains additional material.
With one video from the album, Fish Out of Water, previously released to critical acclaim, the latest video from the album, Fear — a collaborative piece of work between Shahzad and other artistes — is currently making the rounds on the tube, the album will also subsequently be available online on www.shahzadhameed.com for download.

Ali Zafar building private home music studio in Lahore
He’s known for being finicky about how an album is produced and recorded, and has no qualms about travelling to different ends of the world to get the end result just the way he wants it. Which is why it makes sense that Ali Zafar has been caught up with a bit of construction.
For the past couple of weeks he’s been caught up in building his own, private studio at his home in Lahore. “It’s not a commercial studio,” his manager, Haroon Sheikh said, adding, “it’s for his own personal use and he has the best equipment available which he bought from the US.”
Ali has been missing from the music video circuit for the past couple of months but not anymore. According to Haroon, “We’re in the thought-process of the next video” but preferred to stay tight-lipped about the song or the chosen video director. Other than his current baby, the Ali Zafar in-house studio, he will begin touring extensively sometime at the end of this year.

Strings performing at the SAARC Nations concert in Delhi - Nov 30
Come November 30 and the India's Capital will play host to a concert featuring bands from SAARC (South Asian Association Regional Cooperation) nations. This concert will play host to bands from all the member countries. So while India will have seven acts, ranging from fusion to Bollywood Pop, Rock and Blues, Pakistan will be represented by the band Strings.
The three-day festival is an initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs along with Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and is conceived and designed by Sanjeev Bhargava of Seher, an NGO. Says Bhargava, "At the recent SAARC summit, there was a talk about the need to increase people-to-people interaction within the SAARC regions. If our collegians don't know much about what is happening in the region, something should be done for them so that they take pride in this region."
Bhargava also insists that SAARC nations are "full of some very talented bands". The organisers have spent almost half a year researching on the bands from eight member countries and have put together an eclectic line up. "We have planned the concerts in such a way that each and every band will get its due. Plus as part of the initiative we'll also provide opportunity to interact and jam together to the sounds of unity and peace of the region."
The concert will be held at the Central Park, CP and will be on afternoon through evening, starting November 30 to December 2.

Khuda Ke Liye to release in USA on Nov 21

"Hit movies in Pakistan follow the tried and tested Bollywood recipe of glittering saris, extravagant song-and-dance routines and exotic locations, but a new film has broken the mould. Director Shoaib Mansoor has replaced the typical love stories with warring families, in a harrowing tale of terrorism, racism and the battle for Islam that has proved so controversial there were fears suicide bombers would attack the premiere." – Guardian Unlimited, UK.
After successfully making its way through cinemas in Dubai, Shoaib Mansoor's riveting debut film, Khuda Kay Liye, is making its groundbreaking mark in the UK. Now in its second week of screening, the film has been declared a huge hit, hinted to have beaten the Bollywood release Jab We Met in it's per print average. KKL will now steer itself to the USA on November 21.
Shoaib Mansoor has made a film that actually does Pakistan good and portrays it in a light that changes the general perception of how the world sees this country. That is needed more than anything right now. KKL will be circulating around a couple of important film festivals around the world including the International Film Festival of India, Mexico Film Festival, 3 Continents Film Festival in Paris and Cairo Film Festival, taking its powerful message to its viewers.
The icing on the cake for this brilliant director is the fact that he has been honoured with the Roberto Rossellini Award in Italy for Khuda Kay Liye. The film was screened in Italy on Novemeber 8 and if things have gone according to schedule, he should have received the award last night. An honour this big, for a Pakistani film maker, was even too far fetched to dream of before KKL. If something like this can be achieved, then what's stopping Pakistanis from putting their best foot forward in every walk of life?

'Ramchand Pakistani' movie to receive Global Film Initiative Spring 2007 Grant
“Besides the promise of artistic excellence, Ramchand Pakistani exhibited accomplished storytelling and offers audiences a perspective on daily life in Pakistan. We are impressed by the innovative and unique approach to the character development, plot construction, editing style and technique,” said Susan Weeks Coulter, chairperson of the Global Film Initiative (GFI), of Mehreen Jabbar’s full-length feature film.
The GFI, whose Board of Governors boasts a membership of some of the best in global cinema — namely Mira Nair, Noah Cowen, Pedro Almodovar, Jia Zhangke among others, aims to ‘promote cross-cultural understanding through the medium of cinema’.
Ramchand Pakistani has been selected, in addition to five other films from around the world, to receive the GFI’s Spring 2007 Grant.
The film, which is in its post-production phase and is expected to be released globally sometime in January 2008, also boasts of a collaboration between Shafqat Amanat Ali and India’s Shoba Mudgal on four of the songs from its soundtrack, with two of them having been recorded by Rohail Hyatt. Anwar Maqsood has penned the lyrics whereas Debojyoti Mishra has directed the music for the songs.
Inspired by a real-life incident, Ramchand Pakistani is based on how a seven-year-old Pakistani-Hindu boy and his father unintentionally cross the Indian border, are jailed as a result of it, and the emotional turmoil the mother (played by Indian actress Nandita Das) suffers through. “The film talks about things common to both India and Pakistan: bureaucracy and prejudice,” Nandita said, “There are innumerable cases of people accidentally crossing the border and being jailed as spies.”
No wonder Ramchand Pakistani is currently one of Pakistan’s most anticipated films being made.

Metal band Orion's debut album "Angel of Dust"
Orion is a diverse metal band from Pakistan that is influenced by bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Exodus and Opeth among others. The band was formed in 2006 with the aim of making an album that was not only ground breaking in terms of the Pakistani music scene, but that could hold its own when compared to international releases as well. The album 'Angel Of Dust', consists of 10 extremely diverse songs that cover most sub genres of metal. Almost no song is in the exact same style as the other, making this a very refreshing listen from start to finish. From the thrash attack of the opener 'In The Mouth Of Madness', to the many twists and turns of the conceptual 10 minute epic 'The Final Sign', 'Angel Of Dust' will be a great listen for anyone who likes their music with aggression, dynamics and groove, infused with just the right amount of technicality and melody.
